The Light of Christ Prayer

The Light of Christ Prayer is an intercessory prayer composed by Kyle Clement, a member of the team of exorcist Fr. Chad Ripperger, which asks for the light of Christ to shine upon a person or groups of persons, helping them see themselves as God sees them, and helping us to see them as God sees them. The purpose of the prayer is to spiritually open the eyes of the person(s) for whom we pray this prayer, to receive and project Christ's love and to encourage spiritual growth and repentance.

The devil has sown great evil and darkness in our world, and given the ability and time would destroy it and everything in it out of his great hatred for God, and the creatures and things of God. The greatest weapon we have to bring down his strongholds is prayer, and the Light of Christ Prayer is one example of a prayer that strikes at the root of his darkness, by inviting the Light of Christ to shine forth in the hearts and minds of those for whom we pray.

Imagine if you saw yourself as God sees you. God sees everything about you, even the secrets you hide from yourself and others. Yet, He looks upon you with love and mercy, a love so deep, that in spite of your weaknesses, He longs to spend eternity in heaven with you by His Side. If you saw yourself as He does, would you not want to be, moment by moment, like what He sees, and not what the world and your imaginings bombard you with about yourself? Would you not want to live that love that He has for you every moment of you life? Would you not also desire that for others?

Now, imagine if you prayed this prayer for people we are taught to distrust, or even hate, and whose actions might be heinous, like many of the temporal leaders in our world, such as in the final example below.

Below are example prayers, but you may prayerfully discern ways to pray this prayer for particular people you are concerned for. Below the example is further guidance on how to view this prayer and incorporate it into your prayer life.

Example Prayers

1. May the light of Christ be on my wife (name), so that she sees herself as the Heavenly Father sees her; and that I see her as the Heavenly Father sees her.

2. May the light of Christ be on me, so that I see myself as the Heavenly Father sees me; and that my wife (name) sees me as the Heavenly Father sees me.

3. May the light of Christ be on our children, grandchildren, godchildren and siblings so that they see themselves as the Heavenly Father sees them; and that we see them as the Heavenly Father sees them.

4. May the Light of Christ be on all spiritual and temporal leaders in the world, and their families and loved ones so that they see themselves as the Heavenly Father sees them, and that we see them as the Heavenly Father sees them.
